DAY 1:  Sat, Feb 17

Departure

Depart Houston to Tel Aviv

DAY 2:  Sun, Feb 18

Tel Aviv – Netanya

Upon arrival, our guide who will accompany us throughout our spiritual journey will meet us. Drive to our hotel in beautiful Netanya on the shore of the Mediterranean for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3:  Mon, Feb 19

Caesarea, Roman Aqueduct, Megiddo, Mount Carmel, Muhraka, Tiberias 

Today we will travel up the coast to Caesarea, the ancient capital of the Roman province, where we view the remains of Roman and Crusader structures. We will stop to see the Roman aqueduct, a marvel of engineering, for pictures and a chance to dip your toes in the Mediterranean Sea.  There is a wealth of Roman, Byzantine, Arab and Crusader ruins in the area, as well as the harbor from which St. Paul was taken prisoner to Rome. Drive through the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, one of Solomon’s fortified cities and view the Valley of Armageddon, site of many wars.  We will explore the ruins at Megiddo then continue to Mt. Carmel where the Prophet Elijah confronted the 400 Baal prophets, (1 Kings 18).  Drive to your hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4:  Tue, Feb 20

Boat Ride, Capernaum, Tabgha, Baptismal Site

This morning we set off on a private boat ride on the Sea of Galilee.  We will stop at Capernaum (Mathew 4:13) where you will see the ancient synagogue (Luke 4:31–36; Mark 1:21–28) where Jesus taught and St. Peter’s house, which was converted into a church.  You will also visit Tabgha with the Church of Peter’s Primacy and the ancient mosaic of the Loaves and Fishes before you continue on to the Mount of Beatitudes (Mathew 5-7), the site where Christ gave the Sermon on the Mount.  End the day at the Baptismal site at Yardenit where we will have an opportunity to be baptized in the Jordan River.  Visit Cana (John 2:1–11), where Jesus began His public ministry, performed his first miracle at the wedding and where couples may renew their wedding vows. Continue to your hotel on the shore of the Sea of Galilee in the town of Tiberias for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 5:  Wed, Feb 21

Nazareth, Nazareth Village, Jerusalem 

This morning we travel to Nazareth to visit the Church of Annunciation and Joseph’s workshop.  We continue our time in Nazareth with a visit to Nazareth Village.  An open-air museum, that reconstructs and reenacts village life in Galilee during the time of Jesus.  Drive down the Jordan Valley to Jerusalem stopping at Jericho, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, for a tour of the city.   There we will see the sycamore tree (Luke 19:3-4) and a view of Mt. Temptation (Matt. 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13). Drive through the Judean hills to the holy city of Jerusalem for dinner and overnight at your hotel. 

DAY 6:  Thurs, Feb 22

Shrine of the Book, Model, Ein Karem, Bethlehem, Shepherds Fields

Today we head to the New City of Jerusalem, past the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament building, and visit Shrine of the Book, Israel Museum, which houses the original Dead Sea Scrolls. We will see a scale model of Jerusalem as it appeared in the time of Jesus 2000 years ago.  We then head to Ein Karem, to visit the Church of the Visitation and the Church of John the Baptist.  In the afternoon we drive to the Shepherds Fields and on to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.  We will stop at one of the Souvenir Shops in Bethlehem for an opportunity to buy souvenirs then continue to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7:  Fri, Feb 23

Bethany, Qumran, Masada, Dead Sea

Depart Jerusalem and travel south along the shores of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth, to tour where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947.  Continue to Masada and ascend the ancient fortress by cable car. Visit the ruins of the fortress where from 70-73AD the Jewish defenders made the last stand of the Judean revolt against Rome. End the day with a swim in the salty, mineral-laden and unsinkable waters of the Dead Sea. Return to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 8:  Sat, Feb 24

Mt. of Olives, Gethsemane, Southern Steps, Rabbinical Tunnels, Old City of Jerusalem, YAD Vashem

We travel to the Mount of Olives where we will start with a panoramic view of Jerusalem then start the traditional “Palm Sunday Walk,” the path Christ followed as He made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Along the way we stop at the Garden of Gethsemane with its ancient olive trees and the Church of All Nations and have a Worship Service in the Garden. Enter the Old city through one of the Gates to visit the “Southern Steps” leading to the original main entrance to the Temple Mount in Jesus’ day. This is one of the few places one can be sure they walk along the same pavement stones and steps that Jesus walked.  Visit the Pools of Bethesda and St. Anne’s Church, a perfectly preserved Crusader period church with remarkable acoustics.  We stop at the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) where you can place a note in the wall, then continue with a tour of the Western Wall Tunnel (Rabbinical Tunnels) at the base of the Temple Mount, now the site of the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site of Islam, and the traditional site of Solomon’s Temple. We will continue to Yad Vashem to tour the Holocaust Museum. Dinner and overnight at Hotel in Jerusalem.

DAY 9:   Sun, Feb 25

City of David, Mt Zion, Garden Tomb

Visit the City of David which lies outside Jerusalem’s 14th century walls along a narrow hill on the east side of the Old City.  This is where Jerusalem “began.” Here we view walls, towers and fortifications that protected the city from enemies, pass through the water system, see the Gihon Springs and Pool of Siloam and encounter the personalities and dwelling places of the city as reflected by archaeological discovery and the Bible.  We visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the site of Jesus crucifixion and burial.  There will be time to shop at the various vendors in the old city before continuing on to visit Mt Zion, the Tomb of David and the Upper Room.  We have a short drive to the Garden Tomb for our own closing Communion Service to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord in a time of worship and celebration. Return to your hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

DAY 10:  Mon, Feb 26

Return Home
