Sacred Sorrows: A Half-Day Retreat for Grief & Lament

November 7 8:30 am - 12:30 pm  |  The Hub (across the street from The Met)

12903 Jones Road, Houston, TX, USA

Some sorrows are obvious. Others are harder to name. All of them deserve space.

Grief comes to us in many forms—the death of someone we love, the loss of a relationship, an unexpected transition, a changing family, an unrealized hope, a painful ending, or simply the recognition that something is not as it once was. And yet, we often feel pressure to move on, hold it together, or decide that enough time has passed.

Sacred Sorrows is an invitation to something different.

This half-day retreat offers a quiet, gentle space to slow down and acknowledge the losses you carry in the presence of God—a space to uncover the lost art of lament.

Together, we’ll explore the many ways grief can show up in our lives and discover different ways of expressing lament through teaching, personal reflection, prayer, Scripture, creative practices, and silence.

You will not be asked to share anything you aren’t ready to share, and you will not be expected to arrive at resolution. There is no particular place you need to be in your grief to come.

You are simply invited to bring what you carry.

Perhaps grief is not something to hurry through, but something that—with time, tenderness, and the presence of God—can become sacred space.

Come as you are. Bring the sorrow you know and perhaps make room to notice the sorrow you haven’t yet had words for.

What to Bring: Bible, journal, and pen. You may also want to bring a sweater or blanket, water bottle, and any personal snacks.

Light breakfast refreshments and snacks will be provided.
